JPG has no transparency, so the background turns white.
Results depend on the photo. Check the edges before you use the image.
Put products on the plain white background most online shops and marketplaces expect. Drop a whole batch of product shots, check each cut-out and download every image at full size in one ZIP.
How to use
- Drop one or more photos on the card, tap to choose, or paste with Ctrl+V.
- Tap Remove background. The first run downloads the AI model; after that it starts right away.
- Pick a background: transparent, a color, a blurred copy of the photo, or your own image. Adjust Edge softness and Threshold if the outline needs work.
- Fix details with Erase and Restore, then download a full-size image, or a ZIP when you have several.
- Everything runs on your device with ONNX Runtime Web (WebAssembly). Photos are never uploaded.
- Auto looks for a face with MediaPipe Face Detection: portraits go to MODNet, everything else to U²-Netp. Choose Portrait or Object to override.
- The mask is computed at up to 1024 px, aligned to the photo’s edges and scaled to the original resolution when you download.
- Fine hair, fur and glass are hard for any model. Use Erase and Restore for the last details.

How it finds the subject
The tool looks for a face first. Portraits and selfies go to MODNet, a model trained on people that handles hair well; everything else goes to U²-Netp, a general model for salient objects such as products, pets and cars. You can force Portrait or Object if the automatic choice is wrong. The mask is computed at up to 1024 px, aligned to the photo’s real edges and scaled up, so the download keeps the original resolution.
Getting clean edges
Edge softness blurs the border slightly so cut-outs do not look pasted on; Threshold decides how much of a half-transparent edge is kept. Erase removes leftover background and Restore brings back parts the model missed, such as a hand or the tip of an ear.
Best results come from a subject that stands out clearly from the background. Fine hair, fur, glass and smoke are difficult for any automatic model.
Transparent PNG or a new background
Transparent PNG is the format for logos, stickers, design tools and presentations. For shops and marketplaces, a plain white background is the common choice. A blurred copy of the original gives a portrait-mode look. Batches of photos come back as one ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make the background of a photo transparent?
Drop the photo, tap Remove background and keep Transparent selected, then download. The result is a PNG in which only the subject is visible.
Is the background remover free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on resolution or number of photos, because the work is done by your own device.
Why does the first run take longer?
The AI model is downloaded once and then cached by the browser. Later photos start right away, even after you reload the page.
Can it remove the background behind hair?
Portrait mode handles most hair, but very fine or flyaway strands against a busy background can be lost or keep a fringe. Use Edge softness and the Restore brush to fix them.
Can I make a white background for product photos?
Yes. Choose a color background and pick white, or open the product photo page where white is preset. A batch of products can be processed at once.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The model runs in your browser with WebAssembly, so your photos never leave your device.
