Sizes vary by brand and cut. Use these charts as a starting point and check the brand's own size chart before you buy.

For example, EU 40.5 = US 7.5, EU 42 = US 8.5 and EU 43 = US 9.5 (men’s). Measure from the heel to the longest toe in the evening, use the longer foot, and pick the larger size if you fall between two.

How to use

  1. Pick a category at the top, then men, women or kids where it applies.
  2. In the upper field, choose the size system you know and your size. The lower field shows it in the system chosen there, and every other system is listed below.
  3. Don't know your size? Choose a measurement, such as Foot length, cm, in the upper field and type it. Both . and , work as the decimal point.
  4. Tap a row in the table to pick that size. Tap any result to copy it.
  • Foot length: stand on paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe and measure from the wall. Measure both feet in the evening and use the longer one.
  • Between two sizes, take the larger one. Running and hiking shoes often need half a size more.
  • JP and MX shoe sizes are the foot length in cm, KR is the same in mm, CN is 2 × cm − 10 and RU is usually EU − 1. US women's sizes run about 1.5 above men's.
  • Kids: leave about 1–1.5 cm between the longest toe and the front of the shoe, and measure again every few months. For clothes, measure height without shoes.
  • Clothing: measure the bust or chest at the fullest point, the waist at the narrowest point and the hips at the widest point. Keep the tape level and snug, not tight.
  • Jeans: W is the waist and L the inside leg, both in inches. Measure the inseam from the crotch to the floor without shoes.
  • Ring: wrap a strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps and measure the length in mm. That is the circumference. You can also measure the inner diameter of a ring that fits. Fingers are larger in the evening and when warm.
  • Bra: measure the underbust snugly just below the bust, then the bust at the fullest point without pulling. The band comes from the underbust, the cup from the difference.
  • Sister sizes hold about the same cup volume: one band size down and one cup up, or the reverse.
  • Hat: run the tape around the head about 1 cm above the eyebrows and ears.

How the charts are built

Shoe sizes come from foot length. EU sizes count Paris points of 2/3 cm, US and UK sizes count thirds of an inch, and Japan and Korea simply use the foot length in cm or mm, so a 26.5 cm foot is a men's US 8.5, UK 8 and EU 42.

Clothing sizes come from body measurements: bust, waist and hips for women, chest and neck for men, height for children. Ring sizes come from the inner circumference or diameter, bras from the underbust and the bust-to-underbust difference, hats from head circumference.

Measuring yourself

Measure feet in the evening, standing, from the heel to the longest toe. Keep the tape level and snug for bust, chest, waist and hips. For a ring, wrap a paper strip around the base of the finger and measure the length in mm, or measure the inner diameter of a ring that fits. Between two sizes, pick the larger one.

Why sizes still vary

No country forces brands to use one chart, and cuts differ: a slim European shoe, a US running shoe and a Japanese sneaker in the same nominal size can fit differently. Treat any conversion as a starting point and check the brand's own chart when it has one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a US 10 in EU shoe size?

A men's US 10 is about EU 44 and a 28 cm foot. A women's US 10 is about EU 42.

How do I convert women's shoe sizes to men's?

Subtract about 1.5 from the US women's size: women's 8 is roughly men's 6.5. EU sizes are already the same for men and women.

How do I find my shoe size in cm?

Stand on paper, mark the heel and the tip of your longest toe, and measure the distance. Japanese sizes use that number directly, Korean sizes use it in mm.

What is a US size 8 dress in UK and EU sizes?

US 8 corresponds to UK 12, EU (German) 38, French 40 and Italian 44, a letter size M in most charts.

How do I measure my ring size at home?

Wrap a strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark the overlap and measure the length in mm. A 54 mm circumference is about US 7, EU 54 and UK N½.

What is the difference between UK and US bra sizes?

Bands are the same, but cups split after D: UK DD is US DD/E and UK E is US DDD/F. EU bands are in cm, so UK 34 is EU 75.
