Sort lines alphabetically from A to Z or Z to A, in natural number order, or by length, and reverse or shuffle a list. Sorting follows the alphabet of your language, so accented letters land next to their base letter instead of at the end. Paste any list of names, words or numbers and copy the sorted result.

How to use

  1. Paste a list or drop a text file into the box.
  2. Pick a tool: Dedupe removes repeated lines, Sort orders them, Clean fixes spaces and line breaks, Extras adds prefixes, suffixes or numbers.
  3. Turn options on or off; the result updates as you go.
  4. Tap the result to copy it, download it as .txt, or use it as the new input to chain another step.
  • Dedupe can ignore case and leading or trailing spaces when comparing, and keep either the first or the last copy of each line. Show removed lists the duplicates instead.
  • Sorting follows the rules of your language, so accented letters sort next to their base letter. 1 → 10 sorts numbers by value, so 2 comes before 10.
  • Shuffle uses your browser’s cryptographic random generator. Tap it again for a new order.
  • Clean can remove zero-width spaces and non-breaking spaces that often sneak in from web pages, Word or PDFs. In the separator, \n means a new line and \t a tab.
  • Your text never leaves this browser.

Alphabetical and natural order

A plain computer sort compares character codes, which puts all capital letters before small ones and “É” after “Z”. This tool uses the language-aware collation built into your browser (Unicode Collation Algorithm via Intl.Collator), so “Émile” sorts with the E names and “ångström” follows the rules of the page language.

Natural order, shown as 1 → 10, compares numbers by value: item 2 comes before item 10, and file9.txt before file10.txt. A plain alphabetical sort would put 10 before 2 because it compares the digit 1 first.

Length, reverse and shuffle

Sort by length orders lines from shortest to longest, which is handy for keyword lists and finding outliers. Reverse flips the current order without sorting. Shuffle puts the lines in random order with a Fisher–Yates shuffle seeded from your browser’s cryptographic random generator; tap it again for a new order, for example to draw a running order or split a class into random groups.

Frequently asked questions

How do I alphabetize a list?

Paste the list, one item per line, and choose A → Z. Copy the result or download it as a text file.

Why does 10 come before 2?

Alphabetical sorting compares text character by character. Choose 1 → 10 (natural order) to sort numbers by their value.

Can I sort and remove duplicates at the same time?

Yes. Turn on Remove duplicates in the Sort tab, and optionally Ignore case so that Apple and apple count as one.

Is the shuffle really random?

It uses a Fisher–Yates shuffle seeded from the browser’s cryptographic random generator, which is fair for everyday draws such as a running order or teams.

Does it sort by last name?

It sorts whole lines from the first character. To sort by last name, put the last name first in each line, for example Smith, Anna.
