Amounts are rounded estimates, so check them against the bill before you pay.

This bill splitter divides a restaurant or group bill by what each person actually had. Add people and items, tap names to assign each dish, leave shared plates for everyone, and the tax and tip are spread in proportion to each order. Copy the summary of who owes what and paste it into your group chat.

How to use

  1. Enter the bill amount and pick a currency.
  2. Tap a tip percentage or type your own in Custom.
  3. Set how many people are splitting. The amount each person pays appears at the top.
  4. For a bill split by dish, open Split bill: add people and items, tap names under an item to assign it, and copy the summary.
  • Round up each makes every share a whole amount (100 for JPY, 1,000 for KRW); the tip absorbs the difference and the real tip percentage is shown.
  • Tip before tax works out the tip on the amount without tax, as is customary in the US and Canada. Enter the tax rate included in your bill.
  • In Split bill, an item with nobody selected is shared by everyone. Tax and tip are spread in proportion to what each person ordered.
  • Shares are rounded to the cent so they always add up exactly to the total.
  • You can type amounts with a dot or a comma as the decimal separator.

Splitting by item

Splitting evenly is fair only when everyone ordered about the same. If one person had a $30 steak and another a $12 salad, an even split overcharges the salad. Here each item goes to the people who shared it: assign a $24 pizza to three people and each carries $8 of it. An item with nobody selected is shared by the whole table.

Tax and tip are added in proportion to each subtotal, so someone whose food came to 40% of the bill pays 40% of the tax and tip as well.

Rounding that adds up

Shares are rounded to the cent and balanced so they always add up exactly to the total. That avoids the usual problem where everyone rounds up and the table pays a few cents too much, or rounds down and comes up short.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a bill by item?

Add each person, then add each dish with its price and tap the names of the people who shared it. Each person's subtotal, tax and tip appear underneath.

How are shared dishes split?

Evenly among the people you tap. If you tap nobody, the dish is shared by everyone at the table.

How is the tip divided?

In proportion to what each person ordered, so a larger order carries a larger share of the tip and tax.

Can I copy the result to a group chat?

Yes. Copy the summary to get a short list of names and amounts that you can paste into any messaging app.

Do the shares add up to the bill exactly?

Yes. Shares are rounded to the cent and balanced so their sum matches the total.
